DIY Video Making Apps

DIY Video Making Apps

Will they work for India or not?

Every painted your own house? Did your laundry yourself? Fixed the leaking tap on your own? My guess would be mostly no. We all in some way or another are programmed to pass on our chores. Starts with the maid who more or less does everything related to our house. Many executives leave their emails and messages to be replied by their assistants. Dependence on drivers – that’s also seen way too often.

So how do DIY – Do it yourself products succeed. My bet it is they won’t. What India needs is a local solution. A way to bridge the gap between demand and supply. A bridge that will connect us to the right copywriter or the right video editor.

While we are the 4th largest subscribers for Canva in absolute terms but by percentage we barely stand equivalent. An online graphic design platform that allows users to generate top quality designs and yet we find hiring a graphic designer to be an easy option.

Another factor to note is that a developing country is characterized by cheap and surplus labour which also leads to DIY not fitting naturally to the Indian context.

Recently a lot of applications allow users to make videos on their own through tools developed. Despite lucrative deals and low subscription rates the conversions still look very poor. Apps like Vimeo, Invideo, Vine and Dubsmash are just a few. As we progress it will be interesting to note what the users adopt.
